MEET OUR AMAZING TEAM

Jeryl Hoover, Returning Executive Director

 A native of Odessa, Texas, Jeryl completed his undergraduate and graduate music degrees in Voice Performance from West Texas A&M (formerly West Texas State University), and a Doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991. 

A church minister for fifteen years, mostly in Austin, he and wife, Ruthann, and their three sons became Fredericksburg residents in 1996. All three sons graduated from FHS, and two (Ryan and his, wife Caitlin, and John and his wife, Mary Lou) are still Fredericksburg residents, along with three grandchildren, Eli, Molly, and Sadie. Third son, Thomas, and wife, Maggie, and grandson, Brooks, live just down the road in Buda.

Jeryl is the founder of Fredericksburg Theater Company, serving as Managing and Artistic Director from 1997 to 2011 during which he stage and musical directed twenty productions, stage directed seven, and played in eighteen. 

In the interim between leaving FTC in 2011 and returning in 2024, he ran a county B&B business and served as Executive Director of the Gillespie County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum. He is the current mayor of Fredericksburg, having completed 4 terms.

About the Fredericksburg Theater CompanY

The mission of the Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC) is to produce high quality theatrical experiences and dramatic arts educational youth opportunities in the Texas Hill Country. The Fredericksburg Theater Company is a true Fredericksburg Community Theater representing the people that make us the heart of THE Texas Hill Country as well as the very best of our Fredericksburg fine arts community. Formed in 1997 by Jeryl Hoover, the theater has grown to an audience of over 13,000 annually. All performances are held at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater. 

The Scene Shop, made possible by a donation from Ed and Trudy Brune, was added to the FTC complex in the summer of 2009.

FTC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It has received statewide recognition from Texas Commission on the Arts, Texas Nonprofit Theatres, as well as grants from various arts endowment organizations. 

For the last four years (2016 - 2020) FTC has been recognized by BroadwayWorld.com as "The Best Theatre in the San Antonio Region” and has been named “Theatre of the Decade” (2010-2020) for the San Antonio region.

About the Venue

All performances are held at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater, an intimate and comfortable venue with 250 individual seats.
